ArtPal Full Review: What Is It – How To Use It – What I Think Of It

ArtPal Review

Selling art online is such a great opportunity for both seasoned and new artists alike. However, there are so many platforms where you can sell your art that navigating them and choosing which ones to use can be hard. This is the first article and review of many to come where I will give an in-depth review of websites where you can sell your art online.

I have already written the article “Where To Sell Your Art Online” that gives a brief overview of the websites I will be talking about. However, in this review and in the video above, I not only talk about the website, but I show how to create an account, upload your art, and more.

I invite you to read this article and/or watch this video about ArtPal. Subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss the following ones as well!

What is ArtPal?

ArtPal is a platform from which artists from across the world can sell their art to buyers from across the world.

What can I sell on ArtPal?

It allows you to sell almost all types of original art. You can sell paintings, drawings, sculptures, jewelry, crafts, glass, ceramics, pottery, digital art, textile and apparel, photographs, and more!

You can also sell your own prints of your art as well.

ArtPal also offers a Print-On-Demand service which allows you to sell prints of your products and your art on some merchandise such as mugs.

How much does it cost to sell on ArtPal?

It is FREE to sell on ArtPal. They take a 0% commission on any original artwork sales or prints that you are selling yourself.

They set a base price for any print-on-demand products and they allow you to set your profit above and beyond that base price.

How do I get Paid on ArtPal?

ArtPal transfers payments directly to your PayPal account. For original artworks, you get paid immediately. For print-on-demand products, you get paid on the 15th of every month after the 30-day money-back guarantee has passed.

How Do I Upload My Art to ArtPal?

Check out the video above starting at 12:12.

What is the ArtPal Referral Program?

The ArtPal Referral Program allows you to share and promote other artists’ art and receive cash if someone purchases art by using your link. You earn 5% on any sale made from purchases made through your link. Also, if you refer other artists to start galleries, you can earn 5% for every sale they make. This does not take away from the profit of the other artist so go ahead and share away!

If you would like to start a gallery using my link, here it is: https://www.ArtPal.com/sellart?r=62135

What is the “Move to Top” option on ArtPal?

“Move to Top” is the one thing on ArtPal you can pay for. It moves your new or existing art up in the search ranks and on the homepage so that it has the possibility to be seen more. It costs $0.99 per item which is actually quite cheap compared to other websites. Your artwork only moves down in the ranks when other people add artwork and purchase the “Move to Top” addition. This might be something that is worth it, however, I have never used it so I can’t say.

What do I think of ArtPal?

Here is an updated view of ArtPal as of May, 2022: https://briansloanartist.com/is-artpal-worth-it/

Below you will read what I wrote when I originally published this article:

I think ArtPal is worth using for any artist selling their art online.

Here is a small list of things I like:

-I really like how ArtPal allows the selling of so many types of art instead of just the traditional gallery that might just sell paintings.

-It is free to use and the commission cost is 0%.

-The user interface is pretty straightforward and easy to use.

-Their print-on-demand service is great.

-Customers can use the “Room View” to see what your art would look like with the wall colours they have and in different rooms.

-Lastly, it gets your art in front of hundreds to thousands of new people each year!

If you want to start a gallery, follow this link to ArtPal and get selling your art today!

  • Thank you for taking the time to share great information! I look forward to learning more on the other sites you mentioned in your other video “Where to sell art online”. Cheers

  • How does Artpal make money? What do you mean by “Print On Demand”. Are people printing artwork instead of buying originals?

    • Hi Leslie! They make money with their print-on-demand service and through artists purchasing promotions so that their art is seen on the homepage and at the top of searches. Print-on-demand is exactly what you said, it is a print of the artwork, not the original. It is called print on demand because you don’t have to have the prints to ship. When a customer buys a print, then that print is made and shipped by ArtPal.

  • I’m still wondering if I were to sell my art on my own thru ArtPal, in setting my price to sell directly to an interested buyer, do I need to build in sales tax? As I live in Minnesota, if I were to sell my art to a buyer in Minnesota do I charge for sales tax in my price ahead of time? Would the state of Minnesota come back to me later to collect sales tax on my sold items? Would other states come back to me later if items were sold to buyers in other states for their sales tax recovery? Or as a buyer purchases something from me directly but thru Artpal, is sales tax collected when then make their final purchase in their Artpal checkout cart?

    • Hi Robert. If you are a full-time artist and submit taxes on your earnings, then yes, build it into your price. ArtPal does not add tax to the final purchase. I am from Canada so I don’t know all of the different state tax stuff but I would assume that since you are selling from Minnesota, only those laws would apply. If I purchase a product from Arizona for example and have it shipped to me, I pay whatever tax would be on that product according to the Arizona laws.

  • Hi Brian, Thank you for the great article. I am wondering if Artpal do worldwide shipping for their POD items and how is that cost covered. Also how reputable is Artpal in terms of shipping as who is responsible for resolving issues? Can I link Artpal directly as a print shop on my Wix website? Thank you.

    • Hi Patricia, sorry for the delayed response. ArtPal does ship worldwide for their POD items. That cost is included in the price when the customer purchases it. The shipping will be adjusted depending on location. You can create a link on your website that directs to your ArtPal page, but there isn’t a widget or anything that will make your ArtPal gallery show up on your personal website. Fine Art America has a feature like this with their premium accounts. I am currently working on a review of Fine Art America but haven’t quite got it ready yet!

  • Hello! Thank you for this write up, I was wondering if you heard any thoughts from the perspective of buyers. Like what kind fo quality the ‘fine art prints’ are? Thank you!

    • I don’t have any personal experience with customers telling me the quality of the prints. From the few reviews I have read, they seem to be good. But again, I am unsure as I have never seen them in person. I may have to order a couple to see for myself and do an article on that!

  • ArtPal is a thief. They will not respond to emails on a canceled yet paid for item. Not a peep. No refund of 200 dollars nothing. They are horrible.

    • That is great to know Stacy. I feel like I need to try a few more things on ArtPal myself. I haven’t had any issues personally but I have heard quite a few people say that they have had issues. I will look into it and be changing some of my review here.

  • Thank you! It’s so frustrating. There was an “issue” with me paying PayPal so whoever was communicating with me had me Venmo. I thought ok weird but I trusted as I always do. Then the purchase was canceled. I responded a couple days later because I hadn’t seen the email. No response. Then again nothing. I tied other ways nothing. I tried Yelp. I was the only review. Now I can’t even find them on there. Not fair or good business.

  • How does ArtPal handle taxes? Do they collect sales tax and remit it, or do artists have to collect and be responsible for remitting it? What about 1099’s or other tax documents? This has become a big issue for me with platforms after several large concerns that were raised with Redbubble.
